In Milan, the 60% of children at risk of poverty

A situation that makes it difficult to savings and increases the vulnerability of families facing the daily expenses and the unexpected, and is exacerbated by the critical phase of the labor market.

A condition of discomfort most serious affects 10% percent of children under six years. These are children of single parents in precarious and unstable, or immigrants who have not yet integrated into economic and social fabric, whose total income, less than 14 000 euro per year, is not sufficient to cover necessary consumption, which for almost two thirds are designed to house and feed.

in Milan and its province, in short, grow up with "adequate resources" only 20% of children under six years, the children of employees, in which both parents work or income, is the only one with a picture or a manager. And then 10% lives in a state of "healthy home": they are the children of the self-employed or entrepreneurs, who live in houses or residential properties in central locations and spend one quarter of their income on leisure and recreation. If the families belonging to the latter two categories were not affected by the crisis, is increasing the level of vulnerability of families with young children belonging to the intermediate layers, which have not yet experienced obvious forms of discomfort but are likely to encounter to go there. As is apparent from the study, especially young couples with young children, serving low-wage, non-standard forms of contract, a housing market in plaster, must make use of the resources made available by the family of origin, which plays a crucial role in determining the level of welfare.
